How to know it's time for a break

Take a T.O!

Hey friends! Well, we’re finally taking our own advice and will be taking a little break from our regularly scheduled programming in the coming weeks. Don’t get us wrong, we loooooove doing this but to be totally transparent, we’ve been feeling a bit burnt out balancing work and life, and need to take a beat so we can come back better than ever! (so we don’t forget to press send on this newsletter like we did yesterday)

So with that being said, we’re taking a few weeks off of WorkDaze, while Gabi travels to China for her full-time gig, and we’ll be taking a pre-summer pause on Are You Mad At Me? until June-ish Sounds like the perfect time to catch up on old episodes of the pod if you ask us!

Song of the day: And sticking to today’s burnout theme… may we present to you “Burn” by Usher

How to Know It's Time For a Break

We’ve always been pretty good at side-eying hustle culture. That whole “push through no matter what” vibe absolutely gives us the ick. Yet somehow, we still fall into the trap of glorifying sticking it out. “Stay consistent!” “Keep pushing!” “Never quit!” Barf.

And that works… until it absolutely doesn’t. There’s a fine line between being dedicated and slowly turning something you love into something you loathe.

The bigger the thing, whether a project, a relationship, a hobby, the harder it can be to decide to keep on truckin’ or tiptoe back. So instead, we double down, power through (against our better judgment), and wonder why everything doesn’t feel as fun as it once used to be.

If you’ve been feeling that shift, here are three very real signs it might be time to take a a little breather.

  • You feel more obligated than interested. What used to feel exciting now feels like something you have to do, and suddenly that “passion project” is as appealing as getting a “following up on this” email in your inbox at 9am on a Monday.

  • You’re not thinking clearly anymore. The most basic decisions feel weirdly complicated. You’re rereading the same thing 10 times, and somehow still not getting the plot.

  • It’s starting to spill into everything else. Your mood, your sleep, and that weird inability to enjoy things you once did. When something starts quietly taking over your entire personality, it’s usually a sign to step back before you turn into the human equivalent of a buffering video call.

Remember, taking a little time out isn’t quitting, it’s how you avoid resenting something you once cared a lot about. So if things feel heavy or forced, we’re giving you permission to step back for a minute. The work will still be there, and you’ll be better for it when you return.

A lil crunchy cake?! Say less. Kayla Hoang’s viral Chocolate Crunch Cake made the New York Times and for good reason!

Is there anything better than a “doorbell friend”? Pop Sugar explains why these kind of friendships are crucial in today’s world.

Back Market’s Earth Day campaign is equal parts genius as it is devastating, showing the affects of global warming throughout the years.

Thanks so much for reading! We’ll see you back here in a few weeks. In the meantime, be kind to yourself and others. We love you!
