How to switch career gears
Shhhh!

Hi friends! If you’re in the Midwest, we hope you’re staying cozy and warm during these recent frigid temps! *Repeats to ourselves while wearing two layers of gloves: “We don’t have alligators, hurricanes, or earthquakes.”
Song of the day: Why of course we’ve been listening to Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton’s version of “Please, Please, Please” since it first came out.

How To Switch Career Gears

question
I’ve been in the same field since I graduated college, but lately, I’m not feeling it anymore and am tempted to try something new. There’s an opportunity currently open in another department that I’m interested in. After 10 years of doing the same thing, is it a bad idea to switch if I don’t have specific experience? —F.
answer
First, good for you for listening to yourself and recognizing you’re not satisfied in your current role! You never need your job to be your entire identity, but the happier you are with it, the happier you are as a whole.
It’s never too late! While you may not have specific experience in this new department, so many skills are transferable. To identify some of those skills, think of examples for the questions below, to prepare for your next interview.
Communication Skills – Do you have the ability to clearly express ideas, listen effectively, and engage with others is essential in nearly any role?
Problem-Solving – Can you analyze a situation, identify issues, and come up with practical solutions?
Time Management – Are you able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized to helps increase productivity and efficiency?
Should I Break Bad News to a Friend?

question
My friend dated a guy several months ago, who I recently heard some not- -so-great things about through a trusted source. I feel guilty knowing this now and not telling my friend, but I also don’t want to hurt her feelings even more than he already did. Do you think I should say something? —E.
answer
We’re all about honesty here, but for this particular situation we’re looking at it a little differently. It’s been a minute since things ended poorly between your friend and this guy. So as the saying goes, let sleeping dogs lie.
If your friend isn’t in contact with this dweeb anymore, there’s no reason to bring back bad memories and feelings for your friend, especially if she’s moved on and is doing well.
However, if your friend does for some reason (been there lol) bring that guy back into her life, you absolutely should speak up. The things you learned about him will directly affect your friend sooner or later, so it’s best to let her know asap.
