Tackling the idea of perfectionism

You're perfect to us 🫶

Hey friends! Rod wants to give a huge shoutout to everyone who showed up to his Return of Top 8 last Friday in Chicago! You came, you saw, you danced your little butts off to some of the most iconic bops from the 2000s, and we love you for it!

Song of the day:

True story: Gabi had Hilary Duff’s “Wake Up” as her alarm ringtone in college, and she’s still apologizing to her roommate for it.

Tackling the Idea of Perfectionism

Whether in our careers, relationships, or personal lives, we all feel that pressure to be perfect at some point. We hate to break it to ya, but as hard as we strive to be, we can’t possibly be the best all day, every day. And hey, that’s OKAY!!

Here are a few reasons why we (we’re looking at you millennials!!) feel the need to be THE best always, and some ways we can just knock it off already:

🤳 Social Media:

Millennials were the first generation to turn on our Windows 95 PCs with our big toes and set our AIM away messages to something that was sure to catch the attention of our crushes. So it’s no wonder why constantly being plugged in has made us feel the pressure to be perfect.

What to do: Social media is only a highlight reel of someone’s life, and most people only show what they want to show. We understand the irony of saying this while you open your inbox to read this, but it’s important to unplug and go touch grass! Setting app time limits and making phone-free plans can help bring you down to earth and realize there are more important things than someone looking at your Instagram story.

đź’Ľ Career:

We grew up during the rise of "hustle" culture and were taught that constant productivity and working harder than everyone else are the only keys to success. And well, we’re here to tell you that the only thing that’s going to get you is a one-way ticket to Burnout Town.

What to do:

Say "no" to endless late-night emails and weekends spent working. Whether it’s binging Love On The Spectrum or taking a nap, your worth isn’t tied to your productivity. Remember, burnout isn’t a badge of honor.

⚖️ Keeping up with the Jonses Boomers

Feeling pressure to keep up with our parents' achievements, like homeownership, career success, financial stability, and marriage is so real!

What to do: Practice gratitude for where you are right now. It’s sometimes hard to think about all the great things you’ve done while you’re being asked when you’re going to buy a house or have kids. Reflect on your achievements and growth, no matter how big or small, and recognize that your experiences are valid and valuable, even if they don't look the same as your parents' at your age.

…after you take a 10-minute power nap between meetings.

Every salad should come chopped. We said what we said, which is why we’re currently obsessing over this Chopped Caesar Salad recipe by Marie’s Dressing.

How about that White Lotus season finale?! We’re bummed our Sundays won’t be the same anymore, but watching Aimee Lou Wood try Goldfish for the first time made our week!

Need a reason to throw a party? We’re stealing a page out of kayy_davy’s book and having a “bring your own reason to celebrate” bash!

Thanks so much for reading! Only two more sleeps until the weekend; you got this! WLYSM.
